April Superintendent's Corner

For this month’s edition, I thought I would discuss a variety of topics. The first is that over the last month, we have had quite a bit of work completed. Our gym floor had undergone some storm damage and needed repairs. We have put in new wood to replace the damaged areas, we have sanded and finished the entire floor, and we have put new artwork on the floor. It looks great!  We have added 3 new HVAC units in part of our 1-3rd grade building. We have 3 more units coming soon which will mean that every classroom in that building will have a new unit.  We have completed concrete work on the outside of the gym in hopes of preventing additional water issues. The new work includes concrete sections that are intended to take the water away from the building. We have had signage added to our awning at the front entrance in hopes of making it more visible and in hopes of clarifying where the front door to the school is. We hope the changes will help us to maintain our buildings so that they will serve the community for a long period of time.  We also hope the new changes provide a better learning environment for our students and a better work environment for our staff.

We have a couple of civic events coming up soon. On April 22nd, we will be having our next community-wide breakfast. We will begin serving the meal at 7:30 AM in the cafeteria  We will have a guest speaker from the Grady County Community give a presentation about various news impacting our area. We will have a local minister give a brief devotional. I will follow up with a brief report about school news. We look forward to seeing you on the 22nd!

On April 29th, we will be having a school-wide garage sale. The Superintendent’s Cabinet is hosting the sale.  All proceeds from the sale will go to the local YMCA Youth Programs. Please check the Friend School FB page for details on the sale. We are currently collecting items for the sale. We will take any and all donations.

As we close out the year, students will soon begin the testing process. Please help us prepare our students by making sure they have plenty of rest each night. Please help to make sure that they are getting a good breakfast and lunch (if they bring their lunch). Please encourage the students to take their time and do their best. The results of the tests will reflect on the school in regard to the school’s report card, so it is important that students give a great effort.

We have a ton of school activities planned before the end of the year.  Please check the school’s website and the district’s Facebook Page for schedules and details.

Please let us know if you have any questions regarding anything school related.
